x meets Marcel Verlinden and becomes his roomie, the two rising through the ranks of de Groot's fraction together
x also becomes Marcel's very secret, "I'll kill you if you tell anyone" boyfriend
x it's a complicated relationship
x goes from being groundskeeper at the race track to truck driver for the resident team to, after a serious accident that takes Karl out, becoming the last-minute replacement
x while it was meant to be temporary, they quickly find out he's the best there is and at age 24, he becomes their new shining star
x and at age 25, he has to flee from the Netherlands, when de Groot orders Marcel to kill him and Marcel instead decides to fake Thijs' murder and send him overseas to a new future and a new identity

canon point: Any point after Marcel and he have gotten together, age range 22-25. After the age of 25, Thijs will be fleeing out of the country and get a new identity, to support the story Marcel tells de Groot that he's been killed.
